From the womb through now, and for the rest of my natural life, music has and always will be a very important part of my life. From the time I can remember, each night my mother would play Mozart’s "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" which would sooth me into a restful nights sleep. Even to this day I still play it and it still has the same soothing affect.

If it wasn’t while falling asleep to music, during the day Mother would be in the front living room giving piano lessons. Sometimes the sounds weren’t all that pretty, other times they were so melodious you would think you were floating on a cloud. Oh, and there were those voice lessons too. I can’t remember the students name, but my oh my, the voice will never escape my memory … she sang like a canary. I would sit in the dinning room listening to the harp strings of her throat melodically vocalizing the classics. It was simply awesome!

As I grew older, I began to tinker around with the piano. Never did want to learn how to formally play it. Nonetheless, tinkering was where I taught myself to play by ear. Then back in the eighties I decided to attend school to study music. God how I miss those days! If I would have to pick between Business Management and Music, Music was my best learning experience. My favorite classes were music theory, history, composition, chorus. and chamber choral.

Following my music studies my friends Jerry, Emily and I formed a gospel group “His” and traveled around Los Angeles singing in churches. We also put together and produced seasonal (Easter and Christmas) pageant plays about the life of Christ … recounting His birth, crucifixion and resurrection. While actors would depict various highlights of His life we would weave seasonal classical choral music, scriptures and readings to bring His story to life. It was sensational and we had a great time doing it! Awe, the memories!

From the classics I began to branch out to other forms of music. The first none classical music I fell in love with was country music. For a while I experienced the top 40’s … never really got into it. Then I discovered jazz and jazz festivals … tell you, loved them jazz fests! And living in Southern California, attending the festivals was a year around activity … talk about having a great time while listing to jazz greats like Al Jarreau, Hurbie Handcock, and Hiroshima.

Yes, music plays an important part in my life. Through it I am able to express my emotions and feelings for someone or something. It also provides me an avenue of escape, sometimes from reality and at other times my problems. Then there are times that I just love to sit and listen while doing a little thinking, soul searching, reading or whatever. If life were without music it would be a sad and empty space for me.

As for the music and clips here in The Odeum, much of it is from my growing up days forward. Others are sounds that I happen to find and enjoyed. With the help of the Internet I’m turned onto new artists and new forms of music. As for the clips, they are mostly of shows and/or movies that I have thoroughly enjoyed. Course, you will find other interesting mediums which often touch each of our lives in one way or another. And then there are those clips that are just down right fun and interesting to watch. Yup, it's all about entertainment and how it touches my life.

Well, I hope you will enjoy The Odeum, for it is but a small sample of who I am and the music that makes my life a place filled with some kind of harmony and melodic sense. For every now and then there is nothing like taking a moment to freeing ourselves and indulging in a little laughter and a hell of a lot of dancing.
