EchoLight Studios just released “The Christmas Candle”, based on Lucado's novel of the same title, is now showing.
The story is set in Gladbury, where legend says that every 25 years an angel visits the village candle maker and touches a single candle. The candle maker then decides which village resident most needs a miracle and delivers the candle accordingly. Whoever possesses the Christmas Candle, lights it and prays, receives a miracle on Christmas Eve. (See trailer below)
Villagers still depend on the legend to bring a small piece of hope to their hardscrabble lives. But in 1890, at the dawn of the electric age, it may be limping to its grave. A strong tension stuns all of Gladbury – and keeps the story engaging – when a new young minister arrives. The Rev. Richmond ridicules the 200-year Christmas candle tradition and promptly sets about relegating it to history. Since it is a Christmas movie, one can probably predict his level of success. But the dismantling of the wall he builds between himself and the villagers is still an intriguing story.
There's a real British feel to the production, and the screenplay, written by Candace Lee and Eric Newman, is well served by a cast of actors who portray the village characters superbly. Themes that permeate the story line include the value of traditions, hope, tolerance for others' views, humility and the necessity for perseverance. It's a movie all the family can enjoy together. -One News Now
